My Target Field Experience
If you recall (and if you don't, its below...) my last post was a foreshadow of my Game 1 adventure at Target Field. Last night was the actual adventure.
The night got off to a rough start as I walked in and they didn't have my name on the list or have a nametag for me. I'm willing to help a guy out, but come on. First you don't have season tickets for me, then you don't have my nametag? Lucky my Type A personality was ready for anything, resulting in me bringing my confirmation email and my Twins Account #.
If that hadn't worked, then my hostile personality would've kicked in and had a meltdown. Fortunately for the gentleman at the table, the confirmation email did the trick.
We (Mara and I) got to the Legends Club just in time to see Dave St. Peter get grilled about the growing payroll and the receding wins. His answers were very political, which is absolutely what I expected, but still interesting to hear. It was kind of like Occupy Target Field - fans giving their opinions on The Man. There were other interesting questions, but one that particularly peeked my interest was a question about 2nd base.
St. Peter THREW Nishioka under the bus. Hardcore. It was brutal. He basically said Nishi would have to earn his spot on the team during Spring Training (duh), but that they fully expect Casilla to be playing at 2nd and will be looking for a fresh player at shortstop. So... basically this guy is willing to go out and break a leg for the Twins (literally) and we won't even grant him support as he attempts to transition. Sure, it was a rough year for him and for everyone. He played terrible and couldn't make simple catches or execute easy throws, but does that mean we give up on him?
If so, then we should have given up on the whole team a while ago.
Dave also talked a bit about moving Justin Morneau off the field and solely into a DH role. Sucks.
Anyway, back to my experience. It was great. The night really turned around after the nametag incident. There was a free ballpark food buffet and beers were only $4.50. The view was amazing with the centerfield screen lit up with Game 1. It was like an oasis in the blacked-out stadium with the Minneapolis skyline to the right. How poetic.
Towards the end of the night we went on a tour of Target Field. Let me tell you... that Champions Club is no joke. It is pretty sweet. When we were just outside the Club, our tour guide told us a story about how when the Yankees are in town, Yankee fans will fly in and purchase Champ Club tickets because they think they are such a deal. Kind of irked me because the tickets are expensive, it doesn't matter what some Yank thinks.
As the tour progressed, we got to see the underground batting cages as well as the Twins clubhouse. Interesting fact: Mauer and Morneau have the two biggest 'cubbies' (or lockers) in the whole place. They are easily twice the size of everyone else's. What is that about? The less you play the more you get? Sounds like something Michelle Bachmann would say.
Anyway, the whole experience was a lot of fun. My only disappointment of the night hinged on a bet that I made with Mara regarding the outcome of the game and the series as a whole. I put $50 on the Rangers winning it all and a beer on the Rangers winning Game 1. At least I still have the $50 to look forward to.
If I remember, I'll post some pictures of the tour and such at a later date.

Game 1 World Series at Target Field
Though I didn't get to have Twins season tickets this past year (huge disappointment), I guess being in the On Deck Circle does have a few perks.
I will be taking advantage of one of those perks this Wednesday as I head to Target Field to watch Game 1 of the World Series in the Delta SKY360 Legends Club!
I get to watch the big game from the comfort of the Legends Club on HD TV screens throughout the club and also on the giant HD scoreboard in center field. The Twins will be giving away prizes such as framed autographed prints and game-used items! Not only that, but there will be a complimentary ballpark fare buffet, a discounted cash bar, and mini-tours of Target Field including the Champions Club and the Twins Clubhouse!!!!
I AM SO EXCITED!
I will let you know how it goes when I'm back to blogging on Wednesday.
GO RANGERS! Which reminds me... I have to get a hat...

Using Baseball Bats to Brew Beer
With the Mariners bats getting little use at the plate, Seattle pitcher Chris Ray has decided to put the bats to a different use.
I especially like this story because it focuses on my and America's two favorite pastimes: beer and baseball. You can't go to Target Field without purchasing a couple draft beers... at a time. And in small towns like mine, it is even common to play baseball and drink beer at the same time. Beer and baseball just go together.
Ray has recently joined up with Fremont Brewing to create a bat-infused beer. Apparently Ray has been home-brewing beer for years, which makes me like this guy a whole bunch, and has finally found the brewery to put the talents that Homer Simpson gave him to good use. Ray will be opening COTU (Center of the Universe) brewery with his brother Phil.
The beer he created using 'bat' as an ingredient, Homefront, will be sold by Fremont Brewing until COTU can fully get on its feet. Homefront calls for the bats to be soaked in the beer for three weeks, which must make Justin Morneau cringe as he breaks more bats than anyone and probably doesn't have a bat to spare for a month.
Not only am I calling for the Twins to sign Chris Ray, but I want Target Field to start serving the game day specialty. If beer and baseball are a better couple than Romeo and Juliet, then why not bring bat-brewed beer to the ballpark? That's what I thought.
Cheers.

Ticket King has your Spring Tickets!
I know spring fever has set in on my life, and I'm sure it has on yours as well. Recently I have purchased tickets to 6 Twins games and 1 Chelsea Handler tour stop because... well spring/summer is the time to get out of the house and to the ball park or out for drinks before a good show. If you are still in need of purchasing your tickets to anything from the Minnesota Twins to concerts or shows, you should really check out what Ticket King has to offer.
Seriously, we have tickets to EVERY Twins game. Nothing is sold out yet - there is NO excuse not to go see gorgeous Target Field. With tickets to every game, you have your choice of opponents, price ranges, and dates.
Not to mention, we have those interactive seat maps where you can see exactly where your seats will be. I've been to two Twins games so far this year, and take it from me... win or lose, the games are TOO much fun.
Don't miss your chance to have a beer or two at Target Field this year.

Twins > BoSox... Simple Math
A quick Google search informed me that 33 out of 45 ESPN Experts picked the Boston Red Sox to win the 2011 World Series. Never before has a team won the World Series after a 0-6 start. Too bad for Boston... because that is EXACTLY where those suckers are. So sad. While we are only talking about less than 4% of the season... I see no hope for Boston reaching the playoffs, let alone their expected 100 wins and over 1000 runs scored. Callme skeptical.
Meanwhile... in the Midwest our Twinkies haven't started off so hot either. After a couple hugely disappointing losses in Toronto and a few expected losses in the Bronx, the Twins sit at 2-4 heading in to the Home Opener against Oakland. I had hoped for better. I had hoped Mauer would stop hitting grounders and bat higher than .077 and that Nishioka would stack up to be the defensive player the Club claimed him to be. I had also hoped that Pavano would have less than the 16 ERA he has now. But... those hopes are not being realized.
What do I do? I love the Twins with my whole heart anyway. I plan my days around Twins games. And I sit through the whole game... no matter how brutal it is because that is what a Twins fan does.

Don't get me wrong... the Twins are not the best team in the AL Central (raise your hand if you are ashamed to be behind the Royals), but my calculations tell us we are better than the 33-out-of-45 Red Sox and... that sounds pretty good.
Cheers.
Cheers.

Say Hello to a New Season Ticket Holder for the Minnesota Twins
Good news!! I placed a deposit on Minnesota Twins Season Tickets this week. I am SO unbelievably excited... and then I found out what you are about to find out.A team record 95% of fans renewed their season tickets for the 2011 season. Are. You. Serious. The President (of the world... just kiddding, of the Twins) said members of the team's ticket waiting list (me) are snatching up the open seats, and the team should be back up to its cap of 25,000 season tickets within about a week.
Well... this information was released today. And I placed a deposit on... Saturday? I may have a chance. But I am SO scared.
Hold good thoughts. I can't talk about this anymore...
Trees No-More at Target Field... Cry Babies
Well... turns out other teams in the MLB filled with non-Twins players are color blind. They can't discern the ball from the trees at it leaves the pitchers hand. I think we should just make the balls white instead of green...
Because of this unfortunate fact, the Twins are going to take down the Evergreen trees behind center field wall at Target Field.
No big deal, it was only a signature design of Target Field. And I was probably the only one who thought it was extremely cute, scratch that, intimidating, when TC climbed out from behind said trees and hopped the center field wall.
I received the book "Target Field" for Christmas -- it outlines the parks aesthetics. Are you telling me my Grandpa has to get me "Target Field 2.0" next year because some hitters can't see the ball? Sounds more like a marketing scheme than a ploy to make our opponents better.
I blame this all on jealousy. I guess not everyone can be the ALC Division Champs.

Yea... I guess it is hard to see. The trees I mean, not the ball.

Justin Morneau Voices Displeasure About Target Field
In 2009, the Minnesota Twins were tied for tenth in the majors with 96 home runs. This year, 2010, the Twins slipped to 28th place with just 52 homeruns hit in the brand-spanking new Target Field.
Just Morneau is not a happy hitter.
Morneau sent an email to the Star Trib of Minneapolis complaining about the right-center to left-center field fences at Target Field making it nearly impossible to hit opposite-field home runs at Target Field. The Twins organization recently spent $4-6 million dollars on Target Field renovations and left the outfield fences untouched.
Morneau continued that players have a tendency to develope poor hitting habbits when it is deemed too difficult to hit opposite field balls over the fence; they opt to pull the ball instead. These habits then transfer to road games.
Will unfriendly home run dimensions continue to irk players? Probably. Dave St. Peter, the Twin's team president, pointed to the fact that the Twins had the best record in the American League... so why help the team out anymore, right? Wrong.

Twins Fever, I've Got It Too!
If you have been in the Vicinity of the Central Division (baseball) lately, you know how hot the Minnesota Twin are. And I'm not talking about the attractive 'stache of Carl Pavano, the rear end of Joe Mauer, or the beckoning backhand of Danny Valencia. While I would LIKE to talk about that, I am speaking of the amazing winning season the Minnesota Twins have had.Minnesota has Twins FEVER! While I would never classify myself as a fair-weather fan, I am a VERY hardcore Twins fanatic, I must say my temperature has definitely risen since the Twins clinched the division. I, myself, am planning on attending one of the post-season games.
Personally, I am holding out for the World Series, but I do know this great place that has all the post-season tickets you will need.Ticket King has the best post-season tickets available with an array of sections ready for purchase. Hop on the bandwagon and join your Minnesota Twins at Target Field as they take on their upcoming opponents on the way to the World Series. Take it from an expert, don't miss these amazing post-season match-ups.
Then, when you are at the game, you and I can discuss the various attributes our home-town boys have.
