During the last decade, USC maintained a national powerhouse that was an annual contender for the championship in NCAA football. The aurora around USC football changed after the end of last season. Head Coach Pete Carroll suspiciously left the program to go to the Seattle Seahawks of the NFL. After new head coach Lane Kiffin was hired, the program took it's first major blow. The NCAA took away scholarships for upcoming seasons, banned them for postseason play for 2 years, made sure USC couldn't be nationally ranked in polls, and took the 2004 National Championship that USC had won.
Soon after, USC announced they would return there copy of the Heisman Trophy that running back Reggie Bush had won. Top recruit Seantrel Henderson was granted his release after withdrawing his commitment to USC in 2010. All of these punishments were due to Reggie Bush's alleged endorsements he was receiving while playing at USC. Time will tell the effect of these sanctions on USC.

Rivalry is Back, Miama Hurricanes vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish
On October 6, 2012 the Miami Hurricanes and Notre Dame Fighting Irish will play eachother at Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois. The two teams haven't played eachother since 1990 and renew a rivalry that was heated in the 1980's. Miami won 3 National Championships in the 1980's and defeated Notre Dame each time in the regular season when they won it. The two teams nearly fought in 1988 and 1989, leading to the diminish of the rivalry. Some college football fans dubbed the series, "The Catholics vs. The Convicts."

SEC Teams Investigating Agent Tampering
Florida, Georgia, Alabama, North Carolina, and South Carolina are all investigating allegations involving improper contact with an agent. The topic of discussion is if some collegiate players attended a party in Miami, Florida for a particular agent. If so, the players and programs could be facing some major sanctions. This is all occurring at the same time former Florida Gator Maurkice Pouncey received $100,000 from a sports agent's representative between the SEC championship game and the Sugar Bowl. Pouncey was drafted in the 1st round in the 2010 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Alabama head coach Nick Saban compared agents to pimps, stating that its greed that creates this behavior.

Michigan Football Stadium Adds More Seats
The University of Michigan's football stadium is known as the "Big House." Well, the "Big House" just got bigger. The stadium just increased the seating by 2,000 so that it now sits 109,901 fans. More importantly, it reclaims the first spot over Penn State University for the most seating in college football. The added seats were part of a $226 million renovation, that included luxury boxes and club seats in towering structures. The University of Michigan Wolverine football team is looking to rebound this season after 2 losing seasons. Head coach Rich Rodriguez will be under heavy scrutiny if they don't perform. Athletic Director Dave Brandon stated, "We're already looking for future expansion." The "Big House" may get even bigger.

New Look WCHA in 2010-2011
This season in 2010-2011, the Western Collegiate Hockey Association will have a new look. Joining the 10 team conference is the Bemidji State University Beavers and the University of Nebraska-Omaha Mavericks. Bemidji State made the Frozen Four during the 2008-2009 season and qualified for the NCAA tournament last season. It will make the conference more exciting and bring the total number of Minnesota teams to 5 in the WCHA. The teams in the WCHA voted on the expansion and approved of adding the 2 programs. The University of Minnesota will play Nebraska-Omaha on October 15 and 16 to start their WCHA season and Bemidji State on March 4 and 5 to finish it.

Should College Football Move from BCS to Playoff Format?
This has been a topic for a few years of whether or not the NCAA Football should move to a playoff system. It's the million dollar question that fans and analysts have been torn on. Under the current system, the championships are operated under the BCS that computers decide who ranks #1-25. Some teams can go undefeated and still not able to compete for the championship, aka Boise State, Auburn, and Utah in recent seasons.
In my opinion, college football should figure out a playoff format so that every team deserving has a shot at the title (College Basketball has this). Maybe move the regular season to 8 games and have 3 or 4 win or lose games to decide the winner, taking the best 8-12 teams in the country. It probably is a pipedream but it is something I'd like to see happen someday.
